Cool Lipo™ Procedure

Since Cool Lipo™ is a minimally invasive procedure it can be performed under local anesthesia in an office setting with minimal downtime. The procedure is performed by our board certified surgeons using a one millimeter cannula (tube) inserted into the skin. A laser fiber inside of the cannula delivers energy directly to fat cells, causing them to rupture, turning them into a liquid form. This liquid is then suctioned out and/or drains away. Simultaneously, the tissue around the area coagulates, resulting in overall skin tightening.

An individual consultation is scheduled for the patient to learn about the procedure, review their medical history, explain risks and outcomes, and to complete required medical paperwork. For patients wanting to proceed with the procedure “before” pictures are taken and prescriptions for a mild sedative and pain medicine are provided. Patients with a history of cold sores/herpes should be sure and tell their provider so Valtrex can be prescribed to be started one-two days prior to treatment and taken for a total of five days.

Some light trauma can occur, however, patients can return to work in one to three days and resume exercise after only two weeks. Typically, only one treatment is needed. How dramatic the immediate results are depend on the areas treated and the amount of fat cells removed. Results are increasingly noticeable in the first 1-2 weeks following the procedure and continuous improvement is seen for up to six months after treatment. A compression garment is worn for 24 hours and then as needed for patient comfort after the procedure.
